Sworn to the Queen Review

What is Sworn to the Queen about?

The realm has a single unbreakable rule: whoever touches the queen dies. So it is a perilous honor when the monarch, just 22, ignores her noble soldiers and posts the lowliest soldier of the fortress at her chamber door, night after night.

She knows exactly what the posting costs him, yet she goes on tempting him, nudging the line a little further each shift. The result is a castle-set forbidden romance with a reversed power dynamic, where she holds every card and he has everything to lose. It plays more like a period bodice-ripper than the catalog’s modern stepfamily fare, and it runs warmer than most of the fantasy shelf. Fans of drawn-out tension, palace backdrops, and a woman firmly in charge will feel at home.
